Sunday June 3rd, 4:30 - 5:30 pm at Body Grace studio in Vienna Fee: $20 pre-registered: $25 drop-in Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice that takes people into a state of deep relaxation through a guided meditative process and conscious visualization. The good news is that the robins have returned to our skies and it is joyous to hear their song--here's to looking forward to a beautiful Spring season!
Some great news for this month -- including a new class that has begun on Monday nights! Yoga for "Core" and Connection. Also, another Yoga Nidra class to enjoy. Check out details below. Our movement and more clip this month is about deepening awareness and mobility through the arms and shoulders. Nurturing both mobility and ease here is important for poses like Chair pose, Warrior 1, and most particularly--for shoulder self-care and avoiding injury--the popular but load-bearing through the shoulder girdle pose Downward-facing Dog, if that pose is part of your practice. How are you moving here? Are you moving in a way that is nurturing what you need to nurture---or are you asking something of your back and shoulders you might not want to? If you'd like to receive Heart Tree Yoga's short movement and more video clips to deepen your practice, sign up for our mailing list. This month also I have some reflections for you about reevaluating your daily self-care regimen as we move into Spring, because just as the weather shifts, so do the needs of our body! Read on! Welcome to February! Lots of great things happening with Heart Tree Yoga to share with you.
You will find news about upcoming events below, as well as a recipe for digestive tea to keep your digestive fire lit during these winter months. (Better digestion means your tissues are getting the nourishment they need for healing and wellbeing - so it is a great thing to pay attention to, especially during cold winter months!) For newsletter subscribers, this month's newsletter included a Movement and More clip on deepening awareness with Chair Pose--particularly how to improve strength and stability through your legs while improving balance and function. You can get more out of this pose with better awareness of what's really moving. In addition, I shared some musings from my recent trip to Canada about the interconnectedness of our body and mind its relationship to stress and pain. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
from Heart Tree Yoga I hope you each had a fulfilling and restorative time with family and friends for the holiday season as well as some time to reflect on 2017 and your dreams and goals for the coming year. A brand new year offers a fresh opportunity to grow into our best selves. I really believe that growing into our best selves--strong, resilient, free, joyous, creative and courageous individuals--means fully embracing our possibilities through openness in our hearts--and body, mind and soul. A friend and colleague of mine once observed--"how people do one thing is how they do everything". There can be a lot of truth to this when it comes to how we move in our bodies and how we are in the world. Our movement tendencies often mirror our 'being' tendencies. If you have attended my classes or worked with me you know that finding and feeling your own way of moving and going deeper into your own state of being opens the door far wider to gaining greater inner ease, self-compassion, strength and resilience. I hope as you embrace this New Year you will take time to discover more about how you are moving in this world--and open to door to more growth and freedom by improving the interaction between your movement and your being. Below I'm sharing some personal tips that I've found incredibly helpful in getting through these cold months and which I hope you will also find useful, and a special New Year's wish about the importance of making mistakes (LOVE THIS). If you would also like to receive this month's Movement and More Clip about giving your back a break while you strengthen your legs, and some musings and pictures of my recent trip to India, just let me know and I'll add you to the distribution list. Thanks for joining me on this journey! SEASON'S GREETINGS!
I hope this greeting finds you well, connecting with loved ones and creating cherished memories to savor, while treating yourself with care. In the thick of bustling holiday season it is so key to treat yourself kindly. If you are like me, finding balance during the holidays is a must, otherwise it can be short trip to exhaustion and catching the latest bug making its way around. And, sometimes the holidays can 'bring up stuff'--whether it is missing a loved one, reflecting on times past, or interacting with that extended family member who always gets under your skin. Sometimes with all the glitter there a sense that the holidays are supposed to be, should be, a 'rosy' time all around. Yet like life, this time of year is multi-layered, with both priceless joys and . . .stress. To support you in taking good care of yourself through the remaining weeks of the season, I'm sharing some self-care tips that I hope you can use to connect back to yourself and what your body may need. You will find them below. Also, this month's new Movement and More clip focuses on the often neglected base of support--your feet. Feet can get abused during this time of year--and I hope you can nurture them with a short practice for yourself. Please reach out if you'd like receive my monthly Movement and More clips. They are a great way to start a mini-home practice for yourself. I don't have any special workshops to announce for December. Instead, my fortunate news is that I have an opportunity to visit India this month (this is what happens when a long-time girlfriend has an extra ticket and she picks you to go with her! Yay!) I can't wait to share my experiences when I get back. We've got some great sightseeing planned and naturally visiting the birthplace of yoga will make this an exceptionally special trip for me. I do have a HOLIDAY SPECIAL going on that right now. If you are ready to start of 2018 with self-care that makes sense of your body and your real life, let's connect. It's not about fixing you. It's about growing into the wholeness of who you can be. Amazing things can happen when you deepen your connection to your body and honor that. And it makes a great gift for a loved one too! You can find details below. Sending you light and love, Carolyn HEART TREE YOGA’s

My dear Nana used to have a saying about gratitude. She would tell me to "Count your blessings every day. And start with your eyes." There is truly so much beauty in this world if we simply take a moment to stop and see. On my walk today for me it was the pine needles littering the ground along with newly fallen leaves, and the yellow and crimson showing in the trees as the season makes its transition. Just taking those sights in with a little more intention also brought me to other senses of feeling the breeze on my skin and tiny raindrops and breathing in the soft and fresh air. Feeling my feet take in each step as I descended some stairs. And suddenly my walk was so much More.
Sometimes during transitions it can take a little extra effort to take that pause, even as we move, to really be and notice the world around us. And, when we do, life has that much more richness and vitality. Moving into this month of November I wish you many moments of gratitude and simple being. NOVEMBER EVENTS!
