Welcome to September. Heart Tree Yoga has some terrific workshops coming up this month and this Fall! Also, see below for information about an important local community resource for people living with Parkinson's and their caregivers. Sunday, September 17th - Save the Date! Yoga Nidra and the Art of Conscious Relaxation I am very excited to be offering a classical Yoga Nidra class this month at Body Grace studio in Vienna, VA on Sunday, September 17th from 4:30-5:30 pm. Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice that takes people into a state of deep relaxation through a guided meditative process and conscious visualization. Also known as yogic sleep, the practice gives rest to the mind, body and senses by drawing the practitioner into a state of conscious awareness—a brain state between full wakefulness and full sleep. This practice has been linked with reducing stress, tension and pain; improving circulation and immune functioning; lowering blood pressure and inflammation; and stabilizing mood. Yoga Nidra is generally practiced while lying down or in a seated position. For your comfort, please bring a pillow and wear comfortable clothing and arrive 15 minutes before class start. Mats and blankets are available at the studio or feel free to bring your own. Please RSVP to Jan at [email protected] by Saturday, September 16 to reserve a spot. $20 preregistered/$25 drop in fee. Local Resources for Parkinson's I need to share with you an important local resource I've discovered for people living with Parkinson's and their caregivers. The Parkinson's Social Network offers a relaxed and informal café setting where people with Parkinson's and their families and caregivers can come together monthly to meet in shared community. On Monday, October 9th I will be visiting and speaking at the Café Fairfax location, offering tips for reviving and restoring daily through small bits of self-care that add up to greater wellbeing. For more information about these community events and other resources available to people living with Parkinson's, please visit www.ParkinsonSocialNetwork.org. I look forward to staying connected this Fall and sharing more about upcoming classes and events. Wishing you ease and wellbeing as we approach the new season.
With light, Carolyn
